My pillows are to die for, embroidered
and embellished, simply outrageous-
somteimes wild and wacky, nonpareil.
You get my drift.
With over three hundred colors of silk
to choose from, there is no excuse
for not having a bit of luxury
in your favorite color
Pillow Talk
Some pillows do talk and the little ones with handmade fringe will beg you to pick them up and play with them.
The bigger ones, filled with feathers or hypoallergenic kapok, may tell you it's time to fix a cup of tea and sink into them for a much needed respite.Don't believe them if they try and tell you I was tired of them and just wanted to get rid of them.
I love all my pillows (I will admit to having a few that I love more than others) and would hoard them if I could, but they can get a little noisy when they are all talking at once, so please invite a few over to your house.
Sometimes, late at night, you can hear them talking to each other.
Atypical Trapunto
You can track trapunto back to needlework done in Sicily during the fifteenth century. Typically, it is a design quilted onto a whole piece of cloth with cotton stuffed into the motif between the cloth and its backing.
I got a little wild and crazy with my adaptation of trapunto, thinking it went well with trucks, fish and flowers. I appliqued the object onto one cloth, plumped it up with a bit of cotton, added a bit of tufting and put that onto another bit of cloth with yet another pattern.
Pillows to Laugh At
This little kitty cat pillow makes me laugh. The expression on the little guys face is just so adorable I had to embellish it with a few embroidery stitches. The balloon I cut from a different part of the fabric and did my stuff with it, 'scuse the pun (it was appliqued and then stuffed from the back with a bit of cotton.)
Ric rac and ruffles take it over the top and if you want to go there, hidden away in my fabric archives, I have more of this fabric.
Putting Guatemeal fabric together will silk velvet makes perfect sense to me. So does making long ropes of fabric and cutting and knotting them for the fringe that needs to be played with. This pillow is most definitely a pick me up, put me down and pick my up again, it's time to play pillow. You can order similar ones with almost any color velvet and choose from several variations on the stripe.
Vintage Textiles
Did your favorite aunt give you a tablecloth, hankie or bit of linen with embroidery on it?
Maybe it is not really your style for decorating but you are not happy with your remembrance of her tucked away in a box.
Hand the fabric over to me and I will turn it into something you can use, perhaps a little lavender filled pillow to tuck between the bed pillows. This will keep her close, warm your heart and grace your slumber.
I'd rather KNOT
I am obsessed with French knots and I have never ever been to France. I would put them everywhere, stop signs, park benches, flagpoles and lampshades. But since my time is limited I decided to stick with silk, velvet and linen.
I'd rather not not be sewing knots than to not be doing knotting.
